Phlippines: A country prone to Disaster

Our country has suffered from an inexhaustible number of deadly typhoons, earthquakes, volcano eruption and other natural disasters. This is due to its location along the Pacific Ring of Fire or typhoon belt- a large Pacific Ocean Region where many of Earth's volcanic eruptions and earthquakes occur.

It is true that we Filipinos are very strong because despite of those problems we are facing, we are still alive and we are still fighting. One of the disasters that tests the fortitude and strength of Filipinos is the typhoon Yolanda, otherwise known internationally as Haiyan. Typhoon Haiyan was an extremely powerful tropical storm and one of the strongest tropical storms ever recorded. The destruction of typhoon Yolanda caused was  immense, a lot of property was lost, a lot of people were injured and many people died. The typhoon devastatingly affected the Philippines. The damage cost of typhoon Yolanda was 2.86 billion USD and killed more than 6000 people and 27, 000 injured. After a terrible day, Leyte and Tacloban citizens  again and proved that they can do it by the need of cooperation and unity.

The Philippines, which is hit by about 20 typhoons and storms a year, has in recent years become more serious about preparations to reduce deaths. Public service announcements are frequent, as are warnings by the president and high ranking officials that are regularly carried on radio and television and even on social networking sites.
